🥊 Chow and Bradford Clash on Housing
Source: The Star
The 411: Olivia Chow and Brad Bradford turned Toronto’s mayoral debate into a direct fight over taxes, housing, city spending and which candidate can move the city forward.
Bradford attacked Chow over property taxes, while Chow said earlier increases were needed to repair and expand city services.
Chow has pledged to keep future property tax increases at or around inflation if re-elected.
Bradford has proposed a property tax freeze, though his plan would keep the 1.5% city building fund levy in place.
Housing was another dividing line, with Chow emphasizing affordable rental construction and Bradford pushing zoning and permitting reforms to increase supply.
Bradford also wants to cut Toronto’s land transfer tax, which he argues is a major barrier to homeownership.
Why This Matters: For real estate, the clearest divide is over carrying costs and how to get more housing built. Toronto voters are effectively weighing two different approaches: more city-led investment and rental support, or lower taxes and fewer development hurdles.
