🏦 How Trump's Grandfather Built His Empire in Canada
Donald Trump’s grandfather’s success in Canada helped lay the foundation for the Trump family’s real estate empire in the United States.
Friedrich Trump, Donald Trump’s grandfather, built his fortune during the Klondike Gold Rush in Canada’s Yukon in the late 1800s.
Instead of mining for gold, he made money by operating hotels and restaurants that catered to miners, including the Arctic Restaurant & Hotel in Bennett, BC.
His business moved to Whitehorse, Yukon, down the Yukon River, capitalizing on the town’s growing economy.
The establishments had a reputation for hosting gambling and prostitution, contributing to the Trump family’s early wealth.
When Whitehorse became the capital, Friedrich’s real estate ventures helped him amass a small fortune, which he later used to invest in U.S. real estate.

Friedrich Trump’s first business venture in Canada was the Arctic Restaurant & Hotel in Bennett, British Columbia.
